Fair warning: I would not consider this a good investment for someone who does not have a fair degree of tech skill, both when it comes to understanding computers (particularly manual driver installation and USB-based communications) and the Toyota TechStream software itself.

First and foremost: The mini vci cable worked perfectly well for me on a 2017 Sienna SE, using TechStream version 12.x.127(the current release as of the date of this post), based on a Lenovo ThinkPad T500 running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. However, in order to get to that point, I found myself using a different interpretation of the instructions another buyer (‘DuckDivesInWater’) provided in their review. I have no doubt the difference was caused by the fact I’m using a late version of TechStream.

PLEASE NOTE: The instructions below are based on a 64-bit OS. THE PROCESS FOR A 32-BIT SYSTEM WILL BE DIFFERENT.

1). Do NOT try to install the software on the CD directly if you’re running a 64-bit OS! I guarantee it will fail. Horribly. Also, my antivirus software (ESET Smart Security) threw a fit about several files on the CD being contaminated with a trojan. I believe this to be a false positive, caused by the type of anti-hacking application packager the device’s manufacturer (XHorse Electronics, out of China) used to bundle the software together, but be careful no matter what. Google search is your friend!

I will add that, after manually unpacking and installing the device driver, I had no other problems and no sign of virus or trojan infection.

2). Start by installing whatever version of Toyota TechStream you plan to use. Plenty of info on the Internet to help you out with that.

3). Copy the file “MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi” from the 10.10.018 folder on the CD to a temporary directory of your choice.

4). Open a command prompt window and change to said temporary directory. Extract the contents of the .msi file with this command (be sure to INCLUDE the double quotes where shown):

msiexec /a “C:tempMVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi” /qb TARGETDIR=c:tempmvci

5). Once that’s done, delete the ‘MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi’ file so it doesn’t get run by accident.

6). Close your command prompt window. In Windows Explorer, go to C:Program Files (x86) and create a new folder under it called “XHorse Electronics”. Change to that folder and create another called “MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS”.

7). Next, copy the whole content of c:tempmvci (or whatever temp directory you used to extract the .msi into) to “C:Program Files (x86)XHorse ElectronicsMVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS”

8). Plug your Mini VCI cable into a USB port. Windows may complain that it couldn’t install the driver. Ignore any such errors for the moment.

9). Open Device Manager and locate the failed item in the hardware list. It should be easy to spot, as it will have a yellow exclamation point overlaying it. You’ll probably see it under ‘Other Devices.’ Right-click on the device, select ‘Update Driver’ and ‘Browse my computer.’ Point the wizard to the folder you created in step 7: C:Program Files (x86)XHorse ElectronicsMVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS

10). Note that you will likely need to do this twice, once for the VCI chip itself and once for the USB-to-serial-port translation. Point the second prompt at the same folder. Once the process finishes, you should see the two new devices in your hardware list.

11). In order for TechStream to recognize and use the Mini-VCI cable, you will need to add a registry tweak. Some Internet searching will probably turn up a pre-written file, called ‘mvci-x64.reg’ or you can create the file yourself with a text editor as follows:

12). Finally, run Techstream. Go to Setup | VIM Select menu and select the “XHorse – MVCI”

You should now be able to connect to your car’s OBD port and use TechStream just as your dealer’s tech would. Be careful not to change anything you’re not familiar with! It’s too easy to screw something up.

So, if you wanna have Opel diagnostic with Opcom China clone, forget the firmware version (new v1.95 or old v1.45) and check if it’s with a PIC18F458 chip with the vendor. That is the most most most important!!!!!!!!! Anything else is secondary.

You can find that there is a PIC18F458 chip in all versions of Opcom china clone above. So use Opcom and vaux-com 120309a with relief.

Even you are using the fake vauxcom 120309a+131223a version you need also fw1.45

Not any newer. But you can use any newer versions of firmware but you will have nothing new and it will not help you more then fw1.45

The most important is to have an original PIC chip that can program new firmware.

So, if you wanna have Opel diagnostic with Opcom China clone, forget the firmware version (new v1.95 or old v1.45) and check if it’s with a PIC18F458 chip with the vendor. That is the most most most important!!!!!!!!! Anything else is secondary.

You can find that there is a PIC18F458 chip in all versions of Opcom china clone above. So use Opcom and vaux-com 120309a with relief.

My Honda HDS clone setup lately so I thought I would do a bit of a review. HDS is a general term for Honda’s Diagnostic System. HIM is the specific tool (Honda Interface Module). Honda has had several tools, the HIM is two or three generations old, but the newer ones are not cloned yet (GNA600 & MVCI).

So if you don’t know there are all kinds of clones of Honda’s HDS HIM diagnostic system out there on the internets. I made a leap of faith and picked one up on DHgate.com about two years ago to reprogram my TPMS sensors (I hate you Honda for this TPMS crap system). I was hesitant because it did not state that it supported my 2011 Fit. The cracked HDS software version that came with it did not cover my car, but I was able to find a newer version (V2.024.05) on the internet that worked. I have successfully used the TPMS features, CKP relearn, idle relearn, ECU reset, and cleared DTS faults. I belive this thing can data log, reprogram gauge clusters, and reprogram the immobilizer for new keys, but have not tried these things yet.

So the HDS only has a RS232 DB9 serial port (no usb),and most laptops don’t have them anymore. The adaptor will plug into your laptops usb and replicate a RS232 port. You will probably need a RS232 to USB adaptor too. I have always had good luck with FTDI adapters. Future Technology Devices Intl – UC232R-10 The HDS will only connect to com port 1. So you may have to change your com port assigned number when you use a usb adapter. I have only used the HDS on a windows XP laptop so I cannot confirm this works on newer Windows.

Here is another possible option I have not tried yet, but would love to because it is much cheaper and uses USB! Looks like it uses the same HDS software!

And if you are going to do TPMS you might want to look at triggering tools, if not you have to deflate and re-inflate a wheel to trigger the sensor. Our TPMS sensors only only transmit when they are spinning over ~26MPH, detect a rapid pressure change, or are triggered with a 125Mhz signal. I bought the trigger tool. Overall this is a very powerful tool that lets you do about everything the dealer can!

The factory service manual pretty much explains how to use the HDS in all of Honda’s trouble shooting procedures. All of the things I have used have matched up, like TPMS and CKP relearn.

This is how i used Honda HDS HIM to Memorize Honda Civic2008 TPMS sensor ID

NOTE:  make the vehicle sit for at least 5 munities to allow the tire

pressure sensors to switch to sleep mode. The vehicle with the new

tire sensor must be at least 10 ft (3m) away from other vehicles

that have sensors.

Step1: Connect the Honda diagnostic system with vehicle via OBD

port on the driver’s side under the dashboard.

Step2: Turn ignition ON.

Step3: Make sure Honda HIM HDS Diagnostic Toolis well communicated

with TPMS control module.

Step4: Enter vehicle information in HDS program.

Step5: Select “Honda Systems” from Mode selection menu

Step6: Select“TPMS” control module

Step7: Select “Sensor ID Learning” from the Mode menu

Step8: The Honda HDS software will display Tire pressure sensor

ID, follow the screen prompt to turn on the TPMS Trigger Tool.

Step9: Hold the TPMS tool (A) near the valve stem of one wheel, and

memorize the tire pressure sensor ID by following the screen prompts

on the HDS. (If you turn the ignition OFF before memorizing all

four sensor IDs, the memorizing sensor ID will be canceled.)

Step10: Write down the 4 tire pressure sensor IDs.

Step11: Exit the Honda HDS software and disconnect Honda HIM tool.

I’ve made some good progress. Shouldn’t be too much longer before I have a full KG with each version type. I was able to successfully activate my copy with a BASIC and PRO license with the original License Configuration Tool. One .DLL is patched to prevent the tool from calling out for online verification, instead it performs an offline activation. The first key I mentioned works until year 2030.

I’ve had major success. Instead of going my normal route, I was able to actually bring back the security menu from version 7.6 and make it work with version 8.2.0. Fully eliminating the use of Cummins License Config Tool. You can actually uninstall it altogether after installing INSITE 8.2.0, as INSITE no longer calls it to open upon load either. The keygens from 7.6.x will then work as well and allow the program to run as normal.

Here's a demo guide on change mileage on a  2014 Ford New Mondeo  via  Lonsdor K518ISE with color instrument by OBD.

Archive the text file with results using your GCT serial # as file name and email it to developer. The update program can be closed at this stage. Wait for response email from the developer.

You must then run the client update utility again and select “Resume previously started remote update session”, then click [Next] button.

The screen will display the wizard page that contains the input field and display dump updates. Enter the dump received via email using one of the buttons: [Paste] or [Browse…]:

After inserting the dump and pressing [Next] button the operation for updating the key memory with new data. Then last screen will display the outcome of the operation:

Next steps are only needed when the update key is in fact the firmware or image template. If the update was performed based on data of the image file, then step 3 is the final stage of the upgrade.

I have a lot to recommend having a Tech II clone for DIY work on our cars.

For the way that you are going to be using the Tech II clone, your going to be fine with it.

As for why GM is going to the GM MDI and a GDS2, instead of using a Tech II with TIS2000 software, it because the MDI with GDS2 flashes a hell of lot faster when you have flash a new module with either it orginal firmware or upgraded firmware. Its also faster to use than having to press buttons on the Tech II for basic commands during diagnostics as well.

So in regards to the vets, Tech II clone will cover all the Chevrolet Corvette C6 cars and older since the last of the updated firmware on the unit covers from here back. If you do need to reflash something, it's done via Tis2000 with the Tech II as the pass through device.

On a Chevrolet Corvette C7, since GM did not make upgraded firmware to flash into the Tech II's to cover these cars, then it's a MDI that is needed instead. As for the MDI's firmware, they will cover no only the new cars, but the cars that the old Tech II's used to cover as well.

Now the glitch on the MDI regarding cloning it, since it has to use the GDS2 software for the pass through only device, GDS2 software has not been cracked like Tis2000 software has been isntead.

So the only way that even a clone MDI is going to work, is to have a subscription to GM (Few $K a year) to allow you to use the GDS2 software that has to log into GM each time it used instead.

Hence the Clone Tech II unit you get will already be loaded with the most current firmware, and for most of the stuff you going to use the Tech II clone, will just be using the unit by itself without being connected to a lap top.

Also the cracked copy of Tis2000 that you get with the clone model, does not have to be connected/logged into GM to use it for 99% of the stuff (do not need an account with GM).

Note, if push comes to shove and you can not find a copy of the needed firmware to flash into a unit to upgrade a module, then you can get a one day subscription to GM to pull down the needed file from them.

Do not worry about what version of windows you are running.

Hence if you are running win 10, and the software needs to run on wp, then you can runs something like VM player (free) to vm XP on the machine to run under that shell. Hell the cracked version of Tis2000 will come with VM player to begin with. So the Cracked TIS200 disc first installs VM player to your machine with a XP shell, then installs Tis2000 to that shell when you install the disc.

So when you start the cracked TIS200 program after loading the disc, it first loads the VM player software, then opens TIS2000 in that VM player running in XP, on your win 10 machine.

As for a cracked version of GDS2 and all the other software needed as well like Tis2web), if someone has skinned that cat, and it will work with a GM MDI II clone, then it just a mater of time before they hit the market as well.

Hence with the Tech II since it preflashed with 33.004 firmware , it does not have to be connected to a PC for 99% of what is going to be use for. Since the Mdi II is PC driving only, then you get into the can of worms with all the needed Software cracked so you don't have to web connect to GM to run the software instead.

Quick way of how GDS2 works, with having to renew the software lease every 14 days, and also needing a SPS subscription to reflash as well.

Really to sum it up, since the clone Tech II work on the c6 vets, we have lucked out that the clone units are dirt cheap now. Its the C7 guys that are now having to play the waiting game to get their hands on a Working cloned MDI 2 with all its needed cracked software so they are not being raped by the dealers ever time the tool is needed. Hence just like the C6, the C7 has a pump in the ABS system that needs to be cycled via the tool every time you bleed the brakes to flush the old fluid (and air if the systemwhen dry) out every few years, and although there are other tools that can be used to do such instead, none of them are currently cheap instead.

Hell, with a clone Tech II going for around $200, if you did the inflation math of when you used to have to buy a timing light for tuning a engine of the old of say pre 90's, pretty much about the same price; while the Tech II doing so much more instead. Plus when you go to sell the vet in a private party sale, having a Tech II to go with the car is a huge selling factor as well; so your really not out of money in the end no mater how you look at it buying one .

The way I look at it, the vet should have come with not only a Tech II to being with, but also a battery tender and TPMS reset tool as well. Think about that, since most cars today will still display codes on the dash if it has problems (no scanner needed), while on the vet it will not. C5 you could a magnet to reset the TPMS, while on the C6 you can not. And battery drain when the car sits for days/weeks, hell the C6 should of had a plug in port with a built in tender on the car as well.
